First Day of High School

Well... today is the first day of high school for the oldest kid. She is in a different district than the youngest so they don't start at the same time. She was not a very happy camper that she has to start earlier than other districts, but we can't change the district can we...

She is going to do amazing and I can't wait to hear how her first day goes.

Have a wonderful day kiddo! We love you...

Open House/Back to School Night

The kiddo decided she did not want to meet me at her back to school night.
(She has been with her dad since this past weekend.)

This year's back to school night was not the normal yearly thing...
The tradition of doing that with her was not there.

As I got her schedule and read what classes she had, I didn't have my kiddo there to talk to her about her classes and see how she felt about them. I didn't get to see her expression when she saw what period PE would be.

As I found one of her new teachers (they were not in their rooms, they were wondering around so finding her teachers was not an easy task), I did not have my kiddo there to introduce to her. She asked me what she was like and what she could expect from her. I showed her a picture off my phone and told her what she was like and what I thought she could expect from her. I absolutely loved this teacher. I probably would have searched for the other 5 if she would have been with me. Without her, it just wasn't the same.

As I met the new principal and introduced myself, she was not with me. I expressed my excitement for the excitement the principal had during the slide show at the beginning of the evening, but my kiddo was not there to see that excitement.

As I waited in line to pay for her gym shirts, I did not have her with me to talk about the experience and watch her talk to 2 girls who were behind us, who had the same teacher she did last year.

As I went to find her locker, I did not have her with me to see what she liked about where it was. Or didn't get to see her try to unlock it.

As I walked the halls, I couldn't show her where all her classes would be. We couldn't walk together to each one and get a feel for how her first day at Middle School would go.

I know some people's traditions are not the same as mine. As I walked around the school without my 6th grader, my heart broke a little each step I took. My kiddo is growing up. What is important to me, is not important to her. And I understand... She won't be my little girl forever. However, she will always be my little girl in my heart. Tonight as I left the school without my kiddo, I realized that our life would never be the same as it was in elementary school and my kiddo would never understand my sadness of her not being there tonight! I love my kiddo more than words could ever say. I am so proud of the young lady she is growing into. I pray that her first year at Middle School will be AMAZING and each year will continue to be better than the last. I pray that she flourishes and does her best and realizes that she can do ANYTHING she sets her mind to! I am thankful God choose me to be her momma.

The top picture is her new principal. Can I just say how excited I am that her school colors are PURPLE AND GOLD... And of course her principal was wearing matching colors. She was pretty cool. And bottom picture is AMAZING. It was hanging on a window in the school library. And how true is it. You can't succeed without a little or a lot of failure... but that success is worth every second of failure.

Achieving My Current Goals

My biggest goal right now is to achieve my weight loss goal. I have a little over 113 lbs to go to reach my goal weight. I am doing it the slow and steady route and it is working great for me.

I am down 36.2 lbs and 26 1/4 inches. I know 113 lbs is a lot to go before I reach my goal weight, but it is a lot less than when I started. I can't wait until I am under the 100 lbs goal mark.

Each day it gets easier and I get stronger. I will achieve my goal by continuing to work my butt off... literally ha... I am walking a mile a day and bouncing on my mini trampoline throughout the day. I am always tired and I know it will get easier because as I lose the weight I will be able to do more and it won't hurt nearly as much as it does now.

But I can't stop. I won't stop. My goals won't reach themselves. I have to put in the work and I am doing it and will continue to journey on!

Auburn Summer Camps

Once the youngest gets out of school, she usually comes and hangs out with me at work. My boss has always been super flexible with her being with me. That being said, her dad and I try to let her have a little fun and every year so far since being in school we have put her in 2 camps a year.

This year she had the option of doing a YMCA camp and the gymnastics camp again or try out Auburn Parks and Rec camps and see what they are all about. She decided to try out Auburn Parks and Rec camps. We sat down and she chose the 3 she wanted to do. I was kind of disappointed she did not choose the Jedi training camp, but oh well.

Because they have a few different options she chose one full day camp and 2 half day camps. We went through all the different options. They have so many different options this year. It's kind of neat, really.

The first half day camp she did was Fear Factor: New Foods. It was a camp where they cooked new foods that they usually wouldn't try on a normal basis. She really enjoyed it. She did not care for some of the foods, but she had fun. And she did try new things. Her new favorite thing is brussel sprouts.

The second half day camp she did was As Seen on TV: Food. It was a camp where they made things they have seen on TV. Day 1 was ratatouille and some soup. She didn't care for the ratatouille, but she really enjoyed the soup. Day 2 was Krabby Patties. One day they discovered what the gray stuff from Beauty and the Beast tasted like. She seemed to enjoy that one as well.

The last camp she did was Cooking Reality. They cooked up recipes for Chopped, Great British Bake Off, Cupcake Wars and Master Chef Jr. This camp also had afternoon field trips to a chocolate factory, the movies, MOPOP & Seattle Center, Lake Meridian and Flying Circus.

She said that she will probably do these camps next year, but she might try something other than cooking. I really like the system they have set up. You have to wear a color bracelet for them to know what camp you are in and you are supervised the whole time. I also have to sign her out each day and I have to drop her off. She can't sign herself in without me. It's just really well put together.

Way to go Auburn Park and Rec for putting together a really well summer camp program for our kids.

20 years down...

My best friend and her husband celebrated their 20 year wedding anniversary on Sunday. All the sisters and I decided to throw them a surprise party with all their family and friends. It was such a great surprise. I wrote a speech to read to them before the cake. Here is what I wrote:

20 years today…
Jenn, how have you managed to not kill Tom in the past 20 years of being married?
The first time I met Tom, he managed to shove himself in the dryer at my house during our New Year's Eve party. I can't remember, but I can almost guarantee Jenn's eye brows raised up back then too!

All kidding aside:
I met these 2 amazing people 13 1/2 years ago. I met them at a time in my life where I needed some real honest good friends. And boy did I hit the jackpot. And of course, Jenn and I hit it off really well. Which meant, Tom had to put up with me too. Sorry not sorry buddy!

6 months later they were both in my first wedding.
A year later Jenn walked with me through my pregnancy with Cadence. Not only did she walk with me through it all, but she was my person who was there when she was born.

A year after my daughter was born, they were both right there with me when I went through one of the hardest most trying times of my life. My divorce. I can't even imagine my life without these 2 amazing people during that time. We basically lived at their house when I was off work until we went to sleep at night. If it wasn't for them, I am pretty confident that I would no longer be living in Washington state. Honestly, I can't even begin to explain to them what they both meant to me during that time of my life.

Here we are… 13 1/2 years later…
They have now been with me through my 2nd marriage.
After 9 1/2 years, I am surprised that Jenn has not killed my husband as well… I had to tell Jenn and Abe when they first met that what happens between them was between them. I was not going to get in the middle. EVER! And boy have there been some really hilarious moments between Jenn and Abe.

We have been through it all together…
The hard times, the awesome times, the ridiculous times, the hilarious times. We have been through all the kid stuff, pregnancy stuff, birthdays, holidays, the broken bones, the stitches, the sassy kids, the tears, the exhaustion, the happy times, the sad times, the frustrating times, times when we both wanted to kill our husbands…

Jenn knows me better than anyone does… and I am pretty sure Tom knows more about me than he ever wanted to know. (Again, sorry not sorry buddy.) Bonus… Not only did I gain 2 amazing friends who quickly became my family, but I gained a whole entire family. I gained 4 sisters and all the crazies that came with them! Husbands/wives/kids and more.

They have completely changed my life! And all for the better. And I wouldn't change my life if I could. They have both been such a huge inspiration to me as we have grown older. Their love continues to grow every single day.

Love isn't perfect. It isn't always a fairy tale and it doesn't always come easy. Love is overcoming obstacles, facing challenges, fighting to be together, holding on and never letting go. Love is work, but most of all, love is realizing that every hour, every minute, every second of it is worth it because you did it together.

Here is to the past 20 years and to the next 20 years. May your lives continue to grow and may you remember to cherish each other every day! I love ya'll!

A normal day routine for me... hmmm.

I walk a mile and then I get off and do my last few exercises I need to do and then I start making dinner.

We eat, relax after and head to bed anywhere from 9:30 - 10.

365 Day Blog Challenge - Day 354

Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?

When needed, yes. I will definitely take on the leadership roles in a social situation. I would rather be behind the scenes and take care of what is really needed. I guess I just hate speaking in front of people, so that is what limits me doing this all the time!
