My PawPaw

February 19th, I talked to my dad about my PawPaw and he told me that he is just having a hard time and explained what has been going on lately with him. A few minutes after our call, I got a message from my sister-in-law. She said that her and my brother wanted to pay for me to come home to visit my PawPaw. I was not expecting this, but we made plans and I booked my flight to go home and visit February 28th-March 4th.

I prayed to God that night that if it was time for my PawPaw to finally go home and be with his wife, I would be okay.

3 days later on February 22nd, I got a call from my dad at 6:41 in the morning. I figured he just wanted to confirm my travel arrangements for the following week. That was not the case. My PawPaw passed away that morning. I don't think I said much to my dad, but I sure did break down.

At first I wasn't going to change my tickets to go home for the funeral, but I finally did with the help of my parents. I was leaving that night to fly home. Not only was I leaving, but my youngest was coming with me. Her dad offered to pay for her to fly home with me and boy was I glad he did... I believe she was a huge part of keeping me from breaking down every single day more than I did.

To be able to spend this time with my family, my daughter and I went through quite a bit...
- 19 hours travelling from Seattle to Lake Charles.
- 7 hours in the car travelling back and forth to the airport and to Crowley
- 2 big planes with turbulence the whole flight
- 1 small airplane with the worst turbulence of our life. I have never been on a flight like that.
- Getting back on a small place with a kid who was terrified from the last experience was super hard.
- 1 small plane that was delayed due to fog and trying to play catch up made us ALMOST miss our connecting flight

But honestly, I would do it over again if I had the chance.
I was so thankful to be able to be with my family during this really hard time.

I was so thankful to be able to hug my dad and mom.
I was so thankful to be able to share memories of my PawPaw with all our family.

I have been having a really hard time. I was not expecting this to hit me so hard, but it has. I can't remember a time in my life where I have been this mentally, emotionally and physically drained.

This morning I got up and read my devotional for the day. I am behind on my days, but I think it was meant to be. Today's devotional said: Come to Me for rest and refreshment. The journey has been too much for you, and you are bone weary. Do not be ashamed of your exhaustion.

What a perfect reminder. I know that I am not perfect. I do have a hard time showing people how upset or broken-hearted I am. I know it will take some time to get to where I can go a day without crying. But, I am not there yet.

Thank you to all of you who have shared your condolences with myself or my family. We truly appreciate it.

What is the biggest surprise you have ever had?

Heather's visit here in October 2009. It was one of the best trips I have ever been surprised with. We had so much fun travelling to Forks, WA and then touring Tacoma the following day.

She came in to cheer me up after my divorce...

I LOVE HER DEARLY!

Ever been in an earthquake?

2001 I was in my first earthquake here in Washington state. It was definitely something I will never forget. It was scary and not fun at all.

Thankfully we have not had any more since then... or at least ones that I have felt.

Favorite road trip you have ever taken?

I have 2 favorite road trips so far...

The first was in 2009 when my friend Heather surprised me by coming here and we went to Forks, WA for the day. It was an amazing trip. One I will remember forever.

The second one was years later when Abe and I wen to Sacramento to watch our brother get married. It was a very long weekend, but it was one I will forever remember!

365 Day Blog Challenge - Day 192

Ever been in a hurricane?

I was born and raised in Southwest Louisiana. So, yes!

I remember bits and pieces of them growing up, but the 2 that will forever stick out in my mind was 2005.

August 23rd, 2005
Hurricane Katrina made landfall in the New Orlean's area. It was a category 5 and it was very bad.

September 18th, 2005
Hurricane Rita made landfall on the border of Texas and Louisana. This was also a category 5 hurricane and it was bad as well.

My mom and I evacuated to Baton Rouge and stayed with my cousin for about 11 days during Rita. My dad stayed back and hung out at work to make sure the plant was okay after it hit.

Hurricane's are not any fun. They are scary and dangerous and every season, I pray for my family and friends if they are in their paths. I pray for all those effected by these horrible storms.

365 Day Blog Challenge - Day 191

How do you blend families after a divorce and make it work?

I will tell you right now, it is NOT easy.
I will tell you right now, it takes a lot of work. ON all parties involved.

I will tell you right now, you have to be able to let go of the past and focus on the future. You have to be able to make it work for the kids.

I can say over the last year our blended family finally got to a point where we all can hang out and visit and be okay together. No more hard feelings. No more yelling. No more arguing. Just us getting along for the kids.

Seeing them happy when we are ALL together, is WHY we do it.

We make it work!

But at first it takes time. Patience. Forgiveness. Love!

365 Day Blog Challenge - Day 190

Share your wedding story?

My wedding story was a pretty great one.
We have both been married before, so we didn't want to do anything big.

So, we didn't.

We went to Orcas Island with 2 of our best friends and we got married on Mount Constitution overlooking the island. We walked out on the ledge (as far as I would go) and we said our wedding vows and we were married.

It was a fantastic weekend and one I will forever remember.

365 Day Blog Challenge - Day 189

Favorite Christian Song:

We Believe by Newsboys

In this time of desperation
When all we know is doubt and fear
There is only one foundation
We believe, we believe
In this broken generation
When all is dark, You help us see
There is only one salvation
We believe, we believe

We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He's given us new life
We believe in the crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He's comin' back again, we believe

So, let our faith be more than anthems
Greater than the songs we sing
And in our weakness and temptations
We believe, we believe!

We believe in God the Father!
We believe in Jesus Christ!
We believe in the Holy Spirit!
And He's given us new life!
We believe in the crucifixion!
We believe that He conquered death!
We believe in the resurrection!
And He's comin' back again!

Let the lost be found and the dead be raised!
In the here and now, let love invade!
Let the church live loud, our God we'll say
We believe, we believe!
And the gates of hell will not prevail!
For the power of God, has torn the veil!
Now we know Your love will never fail!
We believe, we believe!

We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He's given us new life!
We believe in the crucifixion!
We believe that He conquered death!
We believe in the resurrection!
And He's comin' back,
He's comin' back again!
He's comin' back again!
We believe!
We believe

Offer to help if they need it.
Love them and their kids.
Support them!

Remind them that they are loved and are doing the best they can.
Remind them to never give up!

365 Day Blog Challenge - Day 187

Tell your story of loss and how you got through it?

We have had 2 suicides in our family! I can tell you about both losses, but I can definitely tell you that you don't just get over it... You remember them daily. You think about things you could have done to help them. You think of their kids and parents all the time. It is a hard thing to go through!

My cousin Marla Faye was an amazing woman. She had 3 kids and a husband and she owned her own day care. We were all in church one Sunday and I remember someone coming in to get my Aunt Carla (Marla's mom) and then they disappeared. We went to back to my grandma's house because we knew something had happened. We waited and waited and finally got the news.

My cousin Trena was at her school when she committed suicide. I found out when I was working one day. It was a day I will never forget. Getting the call. Going over to my aunts house. Sitting with my cousin Emily!

Suicide... something our family knows about. Something we mourn about. Something we will never forget. Our hearts hurt because of it. Our lives were changed because of it. Depression is a sickness. I pray you never have to go through it...

How do you balance all areas of your life at once? Work/Family/Friends/Volunteering...

I just do the best I can in every area of my life.
It is definitely exhausting.

I work full time.
I am a mom.

I am a wife.
I cook, clean, grocery shop.
I am a MOPS special projects volunteer. I help manage a group for my WA area and the main coordinators group.
I have great friends that I love dearly.

Our newly added adventure is putting the youngest in karate 2 times a week and swim lessons once a week.

I am tired, but man, life is really good!

365 Day Blog Challenge - Day 184

Words of wisdom for new moms...

Remember they grow up so fast.
Take time to enjoy them while they are little.
The chores can wait.

Remember to sleep when they do, if you can.

Remember you are doing everything for that baby that you can. You know them better than anyone... Don't let anyone tell you that you are doing this or that wrong.

Ignore the negativity.

Remember the special moments. Write them down... you will most likely forget them down the road.

Love on that baby as much as you can!
And if you have to return to work after maternity leave, I pray you find the courage to remember you work hard for your family and they love you dearly!

Jump Rope for Heart

For the last 6 years we have participated in Jump Rope for Heart with Cadence's elementary school. Every year we raise money to help kids who have heart issues. This has always been an important fundraiser for us.

When Cadence was 2 her dad had a severe heart attack and he could have died. He had to get stints put in and it was a very scary time. Thankfully he did recover and it is something our family does to help others out.

Every year she has raised the most money.
Every year we try to raise more than we did the year before.
If anything, her raising the most money every year has encouraged more kids to get involved to try to beat her. If that is what is needed to get more money raised, so be it.

Last year we raised $2,171. I was so shocked and so thankful for each and every donation. It truly means a lot to our family!

This year's goal is $2,250. We have a super big goal and I know we can reach it with the help of so many generous people.

If you would like to donate, please visit the link here.

Again, thank you to each and every one of you for being heart hero's. Your donation is helping so many children! Stay tuned for our final numbers. The fundraiser ends March 15th.

This girl thanks you from the bottom of her heart!

Snowmeggedon 2019

In the last 8 days we have had 4 snow storms blow through our area. Some storms left more than expected inches of snow behind.

In the past 8 days, the kiddo has been out of school 3 1/2 days. I have been off work 2 1/2 days. My husband has been out of work for 4 days.

Here is a picture from right outside my back door!

We had a blast playing in the snow this weened with the girls. We went to the park and they slid down the small hill there. We built a snowman. The girls did snow angels. They rolled down the hill. We had snow ball fights. It was a wonderful time!
You probably can't see them, but those 2 blue dots are the kiddos. The oldest is on the right and the youngest is on the left.
This was after the 4th storm before the rain began. So much snow.
My friend posted this on my Facebook page. Yoda is my favorite and this is 100% accurate. We are all ready for the snow to go away and for life to get back to normal. This is the biggest storm we have had in a very long time.

Favorite memories of my Pop and PawPaw?

My dad's dad:
He is always sitting in his recliner. It has been the same recliner for a long time. He likes to talk. He likes to show us his figs when they are in bloom. He loves hearing about how we are doing.

My mom's dad:
He was a talker as well. He was always interested in hearing about our days. He liked to go for walks. He loved sitting outside under his oak tree watching the kids play in the leaves we had raked up.

What are some ways to avoid getting sick on a plane?

I have never gotten sick on a plane so I am not sure.
I do however get nervous and when I am nervous I am in the bathroom a lot.

But I am not as nervous when I have my kids with me. I want to make sure they have what they need and want to make sure they are taken care of. So, that definitely helps!

365 Day Blog Challenge - Day 172

Favorite memories of my grandmothers?

My dad's mom:
I remember she always had these metal drinking glasses. She would serve my mom Dr. Pepper in them and it is where I believe I have gotten my love of Dr. Pepper. I drink diet, but every time I drink a cold one, it makes me remember those glasses.

I remember she had a beautiful smile. One that warmed everyone around.

She passed away when I was 4 so I did not get to know her as well as my brothers, but I loved her dearly!

My mom's mom:
She loved to bake and have plenty of food for everyone who came over. She always had soda in her fridge outside. She loved watching Crossing Jordan. I watch it over again some days and remember watching them with her.

What does it mean to be patriotic?

The definition of patriotic is having or expressing devotion to and vigorous support for one's country.

This definition is 100% accurate on how I feel. I am a huge fan of being patriotic. I love the USA and am proud to be a part of a wonderful country!

My favorite song is God Bless the U.S.A by Lee Greenwood.
